High Five for Friday - on a Monday

Well, Friday came and went and I didn't have time to write a H54F post. But, I didn't want to go without because the first week of 2013 was pretty rockin' and I wanna share some of the highlights! This is "Shanks for the Memories," after all!

I'm not really linking up this week because it's not Friday anymore...oops. Anyway, here we go:

1. New Nephew! My sister in law was due to have their 4th baby in mid-February, however, God had different plans because he arrived on January 1! Baby Owen is doing great, but still in the NICU for the time being. He is just precious and we are so thankful that he is doing so well for being so early!

2 & 3. Selling/Buying a Car - We decided to list my Jeep for sale on Craigslist to see if we could even get anyone interested. I had driven it to over 100,000 miles and it was either sell it now or drive it into the ground and get nothing for it. Thankfully, we got a buyer! We sold my car on NYE and spent the rest of the week looking for a new car on Craigslist. We found a great deal on a 2005 Nissan Murano and sealed the deal on Friday evening!

The best part about this whole thing is that we were able to pay CASH for the new car! When we first got married, we went through Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University, which was a good starting point for us to set some financial goals and strategies. We decided we really wanted to not have car payments if at all possible. So, as the time for us to get a new vehicle came nearer and nearer, we saved up and hoped that when the time came it would all work out for us to be able to pay cash and not have to get a loan. I am so thrilled and thankful, and I feel so blessed that the Lord allowed us to reach this goal! It is a huge relief to know that the car purchasing is behind us and we don't have to worry about future payments!

4. Performance Review - Pretty much nothing beats coming back to work after a looooong stint of having time off! Oh, except coming back in to find out you have a performance review in an hour. Yep, that beats it! Actually it turned out great and it was nice to hear that my employers are happy with everything I'm doing at my day job. It's nice to be complimented, sometimes. What could have been a really bad day at work turned out to be a fairly good one (as good as a day at work can be, right?)!

5. A whole week without sugar! If you read this post last week, you know the first few days were pretty rough. Thankfully, it's gotten so much better and easier! The food we are eating is (for the most part) delicious, and I don't really even miss sugar unless I am bombarded with it. Today (Monday) makes one whole week without any sugar in my diet. Not even artificial! Not even honey! Now, here goes 3 more weeks!
